Pink with a purpose

Sydney Adventist Hospital held its annual Pink October campaign last month, bringing staff, clinicians and community members together to raise awareness of breast cancer and support those affected by the disease.

Organised by the San Foundation for the fourth consecutive year, the initiative encourages hospital staff to wear pink throughout October and participate in activities promoting awareness and recognising patients, families and others impacted by breast cancer.

This year’s campaign began with a gathering in the hospital’s Healing Garden, attended by Adventist HealthCare Limited CEO Brett Goods and San Integrated Cancer Centre clinical director Professor Gavin Marx. Activities included messages of hope and a Pink October duck challenge.

The launch was followed by an evening screening of the documentary Conquering Breast Cancer and a clinician panel discussion.

The initiative also highlights the importance of breast screening and early detection.

In addition to awareness activities, the San Integrated Cancer Centre provides multidisciplinary care, bringing together specialists, nurses and support teams to assist patients throughout diagnosis, treatment and recovery, including practical and emotional support.—Juliana Muniz
