Adventists respond to flood crisis

A major clean-up is underway following severe flooding across the mid-north coast of New South Wales (Australia), which led to widespread evacuations, road closures and emergency rescues.

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) and Adventist Community Services (ACS) in North NSW have partnered with local churches and community members, actively responding to the crisis.

They have provided meals, packed hampers, delivered supplies and partnered with local authorities to support people who have been displaced or isolated.

In Port Macquarie, more than 50 volunteers from the Adventist school, local Adventist church and wider community came together to pack food hampers for an evacuation centre. The church also coordinated delivery of blankets and linen to evacuation centres.

Further north, Kempsey Adventist church has been working closely with the State Emergency Service to organise response teams. ACS volunteers gathered supplies while South Kempsey Adventist church opened its doors to provide food and community connection.

And at Taree Adventist church, volunteers used the church kitchen to prepare meals for State Emergency Service workers. The church is also organising cleanup teams to assist with flood recovery efforts.

ADRA is working with neighbourhood centres to provide multi-cash assistance to those most affected.
