Inclusive approach
For the first time, members of the Deaf community in Sydney, Australia, had the opportunity to experience “Road to Bethlehem”, a compelling dramatisation of the story of Jesus’ birth.
Seven adults and five children joined the session, where the narrative was brought to life with the assistance of an Auslan interpreter. Auslan, the predominant sign language in Australia, played a crucial role in making this experience accessible to all. Among the group was a deaf-blind woman who engaged with the event through her senses of touch and smell, particularly enjoying the free petting zoo.
“We believe that everyone deserves the chance to discover the story of Jesus,” said a church spokeswoman.
