Australia Day Honour
Professor Brett Mitchell was recognised in this year’s Australia Day Honours List for his significant contribution to nursing.
“I accept the award in honour of all the other nurses who contribute significantly to patient care and research and go unrecognised every day,” said Professor Mitchell. With a predicated shortage of nurses, “anything that highlights the importance of the role they play in our community is vital for recruitment and retention”.
Professor Mitchell was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia General Division for his “significant service to nursing, particularly infection prevention and control”. He is currently the professor of Health Services Research and Nursing at Avondale University, a Seventh-day Adventist institution.
