Planting seeds of kindness
A simple Facebook question has sparked a practical act of service for the community around Aranui-Garden City Seventh-day Adventist Church in Christchurch, New Zealand.
The church has launched “Adopt-a-Yard” after posting an offer online to provide free yard work for anyone in the neighbourhood who might need a helping hand. The initiative aims to support residents while building stronger connections within the community.
Volunteers have been assisting with tasks such as mowing lawns and tidying outdoor spaces, using the opportunity to show care in practical ways.
“Church isn’t just a building—it’s about getting out into your community,” one volunteer said.
The team hopes the initiative will encourage small acts of kindness throughout the neighbourhood. “Why not plant a seed of kindness today?” another volunteer said. “You never know what you might grow.”
