Hospitality with heart
Manna Haven, a vegan café operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Byron Bay, north New South Wales, is offering community, care and connection to locals and visitors from around the world.
According to team member Brendan Scale, many people are drawn to Byron Bay not only for its natural beauty, but “there’s an overwhelming sense for many people that there’s something they’re searching for”.
Manna Haven was established more than 20 years ago—the church building was refurbished to a café space, which continues to operate today. The café has become a valued part of the local community, with customers rating it the number one café in Byron Bay.
Katherine, one of the volunteers, said the welcoming atmosphere is central to Manna Haven’s purpose: “the love that the people can experience here and the true care all of our staff show to each of these customers . . . they are kind of like family”.
