From wheelchair to wellness

A businessman from Vanuatu is no longer confined to a wheelchair after regaining his health through an Adventist wellness program.

Three years ago, David Shakari faced a life-threatening illness that left him unable to walk. After major surgery, he was confined to a wheelchair and stayed in a hotel. But Mr Shakari wasn’t about to let his situation define him.

He joined The 10,000 Toes Campaign’s “Live More Abundantly” program and committed to transforming his life through regular exercise, healthy eating, and cutting out alcohol and kava.

Today, Mr Shakari is fully recovered, stronger than ever, and dedicated to helping others on their health journey.

“Doctors told me I’m no longer sick, and I’m happy to be normal again. I make healthier choices and stay disciplined in my health journey,” he said.

Mr Shakari now leads free fitness sessions in Port Vila, helping others reclaim their health and fight lifestyle diseases.

The 10,000 Toes Campaign is an initiative of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, targeting the epidemic of diabetes and other lifestyle diseases that are impacting communities across the South Pacific.
