Students celebrate diversity
Mountain View Adventist College in Sydney celebrated diversity and raised money for a year 11 service trip to Fiji later this year.
Students, staff, families and friends attended the school’s “iNight” and collectively raised $19,500. Prep to year 12 students were involved in the musical and dance performances, representing their country and culture.
Countries represented included Tonga, New Zealand, Samoa, India, Fiji, Australia, Sudan, Cook Islands, Mauritius and South Africa.
Auctions were also held on the night, with a 4.5-kilogram Toblerone chocolate selling for $1200 and a 10-kilogram Cadbury dairy milk chocolate for $750.
Cultural food was also available before the event and sold out, aiding in the fundraiser’s success.
In September, year 11 students will visit Navesau Adventist High School, one of Mountain View’s sister schools, to assist with renovations, painting, community projects and church services. The team of 26 students and staff will also construct a multipurpose court. The school has participated in service trips for 10 years.
Some of the funds raised from the night will also contribute to a new shade sail in the primary school.
