Counselling centre making an impact

A counselling centre at Betikama Adventist College is making a significant difference in the lives of students at the Solomon Islands school.

The centre provides behavioural and academic counselling, life skills training and physical education through its Betikama Student Wellbeing Project. Funded by the Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA) Australia, the project also includes increasing food availability in the school’s dining hall, ensuring students have access to nutritious meals.

The counselling centre is targeting the root causes of negative social behaviour and poor performance of students, according to an article posted by the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation (SIBC).

“The most critical factors to the poor performance of the students are weak support and poor food intake which also affect[s] their physical health,” the articles states.

The aim of the project is to improve student wellbeing and the school is already seeing results with young lives being transformed.
